The Energy System
Everything in the universe consists of energy and everything is interconnected energetically. This energy penetrates everything material or live and enters our energy systems to keep our physical bodies alive. All our thoughts, mental states, emotions and beliefs are energy as well. We have electromagnetic fields around us which are both non-material and material and are associated with human emotions or thoughts as forms of energy. Any live organism has a special structure, a biological field or bio-energy system. The energy system of a human consists of subtle bodies and chakras, energetic centers. Energy flows from the higher subtle bodies to the lower, physical body. The term positive energy means pure healing energy which flows freely in energy systems bringing vitality and health. Negative energy is disharmonious, stale or stagnant energy that blocks energy pathways and prevents vital energy from freely flowing in our energy systems. Negative energy brings imbalances and it is connected to illnesses and emotional trauma. For us to be healthy we need to remove energy imbalances and maintain energetic balance in our energy systems. Our energy fields are called the aura, the energy centers of our system called chakras and the energy pathways are called meridians.
The Aura
The human aura is an electromagnetic field that surrounds the physical body. It is divided into seven layers and normally extends two to three feet out from the body. Many people believe that all illness begins first in the aura and may exist there for many years before reaching the physical body. Any blockage or imbalance in the energy of the aura may eventually lead to physical, emotional or mental illness.
The Chakras
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel”. There are seven major chakras and many minor chakras in the human energy system. They spin in a clockwise motion, like a vortex, emanating from both the front and back of our bodies. They have been recognised by native cultures all over the world for thousands of years. Chakras send out energy and receive energy and can be open or closed, excessive or deficient, or any of the various stages in between. The fundamental theory of the Chakra System is that the chakras need to be in balance with each other. There should be an even flow of energy through all of the chakras.
First Chakra or Root: Located at the base of the spine, associated with survival and grounding. It is our connection to all that is. Its element is earth and it vibrates to the colour red.
Second Chakra or Sacral: Located in the lower abdomen, associated with emotions, sexuality and creativity. It represents our connection to others. Its element is water and it vibrates to the colour orange.
Third Chakra or Solar Plexus: Located in the solar plexus, associated with personal power, will and self-esteem. Its element is fire and it vibrates to the colour yellow.
Fourth Chakra or Heart: Located over the sternum, in the center of the heart area, associated with love. Its element is air and it vibrates to the colour green or pink.
Fifth Chakra or Throat: Located at the base of the throat, associated with communication. Its element is sound and it vibrates to the colour blue.
Sixth Chakra or Third-Eye: Located in the center of the forehead, associated with clairvoyance, intuition and imagination. Its element is light and it vibrates to the colour indigo.
Seventh Chakra or Crown: Located at the top of the head, associated with knowledge, understanding and consciousness. Its element is thought and it vibrates to the colour violet.
Many minor chakras are also located throughout the body and are usually associated with joints such as the knee, shoulder, elbow, etc. Additional minor chakras are found in the palms of both hands and the soles of the feet and the ends of the fingers and toes. These minor chakras appear as spikes of energy emanating from the body rather than the spinning vortices of the major chakras.

The Meridans
Energy circulates within the physical body along meridians, similar to the blood, nerve and lymphatic systems. The meridians control the workings of the main organs and for each organ to maintain a perfect state of health, the energy must be able to flow freely along the meridian. These energy meridians and specific points on these meridians are used in healing modalities such as acupuncture and acupressure.
